Conceptual Floor Plans for Masonry Heaters and Ovens

The drawings above show the many possibilities for planning a masonry heater project for new construction, additions, renovations and retro-fits. For existing home owners the drawing on the right may look familiar. Many, traditional open hearth fireplaces or stoves are located on an "outside wall". For some, the fireplace or stove may look more like the drawing on the left, where the fireplaces have been "stepped in" from the wall. And finally on occasion you will find a fireplace that is "centrally located" like the middle drawing.

For new construction, additions and renovations, designing with a "stepped in" or "central" plan is beneficial in many ways and should at least be considered. For existing open hearth fireplaces or stove replacements, wood or gas, it is a matter of preparing the site for installation.
